What if All Leaders Developed Better Leaders Than Themselves?

by Purpose Unlimited

In a recent article written by Leo Piccioli, and published on LinkedIn, Leo examines how the world might be different if every single leader focused on developing leaders who are actually better than him/herself?

More importantly, Leo examines the reasons why this isn’t happening, as well a possible solution or two.

Here are some of the reasons the author identified as to why today’s leaders aren’t as committed to developing others as they should be:

  1. Our own uncertainties that put us in the need of feeding our egos.
  2. A Hero attitude – in other words, I can solve this on my own.
  3. Fear of delegating.
  4. Thinking short-term rather than long-term when it comes to results. Leo describes this as short-termism.

“It’s all about finding and hiring people smarter than you. Getting them to join your business. And giving them good work. Then getting out of their way. And trusting them.” – Richard Branson
