A veterinarian’s prescription for America: common sense

By Jim Whitt I read an article by Dr. Ted Yoho in a recent issue of Beltway Beef, which is published by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Dr. Yoho has been a large animal veterinarian and small business owner for the last 30 years. He and his wife Carolyn worked their way through college and built what he calls “our version of the American Dream.” As he says, “No one ever gave us anything – we worked for it.” He is running for Congress and after I read his article I decided he has the right prescription for America. I… Read More

Are you ready for some football? First, a word from our sponsor…Eat Mor Chikin

By Jim Whitt By now you know Dan Cathy, Chick-fil-A’s CEO, affirmed his belief in traditional marriage in a Baptist publication. What you don’t know is that this was a cleverly disguised marketing ploy to set a Guinness World Record for chicken sandwich sales in a single day. You have to hand it to Chick-fil-A. Sometimes that’s impossible to do on hot button issues such as religion, politics or what’s the best breed of cattle. Last November I published an eletter entitled An open letter to the President: You’re right, we’re lazy. I received a request from the… Read More

An open letter to the President: I’d be happy to advise you on success in business

Dear Mr. President, I read remarks you made to a group of your supporters in Roanoke, Virginia. You offered your opinion on what it takes to be successful in business: “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.” I’m afraid you may have been misinformed. Perhaps it is because you’ve never started or run a business. Having started and run my own business for 24 years I will happily share my experience with you. As you pointed out there are teachers and many other people who have helped me, guided me and encouraged… Read More
